Imagine Our Florida, Inc.

Our purpose is to bring people together in a shared vision to preserve and protect Florida's wildlife, habitat, and ecosystems. We accomplish this via science-based education and the development of appreciation and respect for the natural world and our place within it.

Volunteer Needed to Schedule Social Media Posts.

IOF needs a volunteer to locate posts and prepare them for social media. We are not looking for someone to write posts. We need someone to identify them, prepare them for social media, and schedule them.

IOF has made a post every day for the last 8 years. Our schedules no longer leave enough time to continue to do that.

This would be an excellent opportunity for someone who needs Volunteer Hours for high school or college or someone who wants to be involved in preserving and protecting our natural spaces in Florida. It can be done on your own time.

Please message us for details. We can't wait to work with you!

🌾🌎🌴 Happy Earth Day 🌾🌎🌴
------- Today, we Celebrate! --------

Today, as we celebrate, let's take a moment to appreciate the Earth. It provides us with life-sustaining elements, including water and food to nourish us, peaceful outdoor spaces to soothe our souls, and beauty surrounding us when we pause and let our senses experience Earth's magnificence. Let's cherish these gifts and the Earth that provides them.

We Celebrate YOU and all you have done to honor our little piece of Earth called Florida.

To our Volunteers who have researched and written lesson plans and who work at the everyday tasks to maintain our organization, to all of you who have learned the plans and educated at events and in your everyday life, to all of you who advocate for Florida ecosystems and wildlife to state, county and local officials, to all of you who have participated in beach cleanups or pick up a piece of litter and dispose of it properly, and to all of you who reduced your use of plastics, who have planted a Florida native or have saved a bee, this is your day to Celebrate.

Know that YOU made a Difference.
Your actions, no matter how big or small, are a significant piece of the collective actions of all. You lead by example, bring awareness to all you encounter, and educate others on how to be kinder to Earth.
Celebrate Earth. Celebrate YOU! 😊🌎🐾💗

Foto Friday: Please post the pictures you captured of Florida's wildlife, wildflowers, and wild spaces this week in the comments. We can't wait to see them!
Osceola’s Plume
Osceola’s Plume is a blooming plant that grows along the panhandle and
northern and central Florida areas. The flowers of this plant are white and turn pink and purple as the blooms age. The flowers grow in 40-100 bloom bunches at the end of a primarily leafless 1-3ft stem. From the base of the plant, needle-like leaves can be anywhere from 4-20in.

Osceola’s Plume is dormant during the winter and tends to reappear after fire, often growing in large colonies in the flames’ wake. Despite their love of fire, these plants grow best in moist areas such as bogs, savannahs, flatlands, and marshes. They drop brown seed pods and are a favorite of local pollinators.

Crowpoison, the other common name of Osceola’s Plume, is a member of the
Bunchflower family and a group called the Deathcamas, of which it is the most toxic. The alkaloids in the plant’s foliage cause its poisonous nature and can be deadly to humans. Osceola’s Plume is a beautiful sight to behold, but don't let any pets or small children get close.

IOF is honored to have Bobby Putnam serve on our Board of Directors. In addition, he also volunteers on the Save Our Lagoon Oversight Committee in Brevard County.
Bobby provides a wealth of knowledge and experience to IOF. He makes us all proud to be Floridians.
